My work moves between portraiture and still life. In my portraits I do not seek beauty, but life and depth; in my still lifes, the quiet resonance of composition and detail. The naked body appears as something wholly self-evident. Every painting is a dialogue: I respond to my surroundings, and the viewer brings their own way of seeing. Oil and pastel are my primary media, yet new forms of expression continue to entice me. Light, colour, and composition are like strings to me—each one capable of ringing out, and their impact and sense of drama are of exceptional importance in my work.
